PRESS RELEASE: Two-level bicycle parking system from VelopA wins red dot design award

published on 3/21/2011 11:24:00 AM
The Easylift+ two-level bicycle parking system clearly made a big impression on the jury of the 2011 red dot design awards. The Easylift+ was awarded a ‘red dot’ in the product design category.

The Easylift+ earned its red dot – one of the highest international awards that any product can receive – at the red dot design awards in recognition of the quality of its design. The jury was made up of respected experts. More than 1,000 guests from the design world, the business community, high society and the media will be able to congratulate the winners at the red dot design awards ceremony, which will be held on 4 July 2011 in the Aalto Theatre in Essen, as they are every year. The Easylift+ will be on show to the public during a special four-week exhibition in the red dot design museum.

Easylift+
Easylift+ is the new generation of Easylift bicycle parking. It is a two-level bicycle parking system that combines functionality, space-saving and fine design. The Easylift+ doubles bicycle parking capacity, but it could not be easier to use. Thanks to its open design, the Easylift+ offers effortless and safe parking for cyclists and can accommodate practically every type of bike. The system is intuitive to operate. Thanks to its robust design, the Easylift+ can also be installed in unguarded, outdoor areas, enhancing the system’s all-round flexibility. The Easylift+ is available in single and double-sided units with varying numbers of bicycle parking spaces.

Red dot evaluation criteria
“As always, our jury looked very carefully at the products submitted. They evaluated the quality of the designs, looking particularly for creative new solutions. These are not only an indication of good design, but also make it more likely that the products will succeed on the market,” says Professor Peter Zec, one of the initiators of the red dot design awards. This year, designers and businesses from 60 countries submitted 4,433 products for the red dot awards in the product design category alone.

Winners will be exhibited in the red dot design museum
You can also see the Easylift+ yourself. Along with all the other products that won awards, the two-level bicycle parking system will be on display at the “Design on stage – winners of the red dot award: product design 2011” exhibition from 5 July to 1 August 2011. The exhibition will be held in the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany. Over 1,500 products are exhibited in the red dot design museum, which has a surface area of 4000m2, making it the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design in the world.

The red dot design awards
The red dot design awards date back to 1955 and they are now the largest and most prestigious design competition in the world. There are three categories of red dot awards – product design, communication design and design concept. In 2010 alone, there were almost 14,000 entries from 68 countries.
