Students and staff need to be able to park their bikes safely and in the dry. The very old-fashioned bicycle racks made way for a new sheltered bicycle parking facility.
With 40,000 students and 4,000 staff, Fontys is one of the largest institutes of higher education in the Netherlands. Several thousand people study and work at the Fontys campus in Den Bosch, a large number of whom commute by bicycle. The very old-fashioned bicycle racks made way for a new sheltered bicycle parking facility. The guiding concepts were safety, convenience, using the available space efficiently and providing shelter from wet weather. The new bicycle parking area was a total transformation.
Fontys found the right solution by combining Deposito shelters with VelopA’s Variant+ bicycle racks. The new Variant+ bicycle racks allow space to be saved, meaning that a significantly smaller shelter could be installed. It was possible to make extra parking spaces for cars in the space that was saved.
“Many of the old bike racks were only suitable for bikes with wide tyres. The new bike racks can accommodate both wide and narrow tyres quickly and securely,” says Gerard Hendriks, Project Manager at the Buildings and Facilities Department.
