Playing sports in the neighbourhood

The Helderse Visbuurt has a beautiful new Omnistadium. In Vijzelstraat, residents wanted a real sports cage to be constructed on a small court, where youngsters playing football used to bother the residents with noise disturbance. The bright orange cage was built; an aesthetic and social asset for the neighbourhood. Residents are satisfied and so is the municipality.
There was a one-metre high fence on the court that was used as a football cage. But the flying balls bothered the residents and there was also a lot of noise disturbance. Because the fence didn't work properly, it led to destruction and the neighbourhood became increasingly annoyed. The residents turned to the municipality to request a good play facility. The municipality discussed this with the residents and together they chose the Omnistadium, which has been in use since August 2017.

Football and basketball
The sports cage (12.25 m x 18.49 m) also has hoops for playing basketball. Plastic clamps have been inserted between the panels of the fence to prevent vibration and reduce noise disturbance. Two Chico goals have been installed to make optimal use of the limited space. The Omnistadium was raised on the side of the buildings using a roof arch.

Positive reactions to colour and model

Supervisor Rick van Esch, from the municipality of Den Helder believes that a fully-fledged sports facility has now been constructed on this court. "I am really pleased with the design, VelopA employed a good team of technicians who came up with their own ideas and initiatives for approach. We got a lot of positive reactions about it, also thanks to the colour and model. The Omnistadium is an eye-catching presence."
